System Engineer

 

Serial Affinity is currently on the market for a Systems Engineer with wide-ranging skills to help us support our customer systems.

As a System Engineer, you’ll also be working in conjunction with our software engineering department to deploy new products and manage our infrastructure, associated processes and systems.

In this role, you will need to have strong experience in Data Centre Infrastructure, Cloud Services, Virtualisation, and Container Orchestration, along with creating automation for both on-prem and cloud systems.

Our current stacks include both Linux and Windows server operating systems so strong skills in both operating systems are a must.

You will need to be detail-oriented and a skilled problem-solver, and capable of helping us to streamline some of our processes—and automating them where applicable.

Required experience:

  • Manage whole stack infrastructure from databases to edge proxies and firewalls.
  • Migrate our customer applications from legacy to new infrastructure and servers.
  • Build and maintain deployment tools and solutions associated with our hosting platform, ensuring we continue to meet our customer service standards and reduce errors.
  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise during testing, and in our production.
  • Maintain our existing processes, and design new processes as needed.
  • Automate our operational processes as needed, with accuracy, and in compliance with our security requirements.
  • Design, document, and develop new infrastructure platform features.
  • Contribute to building our DevOps Engineering team best practices.
  • Maintain configuration and code deployments, fixes, updates, and related processes.
  • Review and suggest both closed, and open, source technologies as needed.
  • Mentor junior team members on the technologies we use and
  • the platforms we build.
  • Provide technical support to internal staff where needed.

Required skills:

 

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Systems Engineer. Working closely with software development teams is a plus.
  • Strong experience with both Linux/Unix administration and Windows
  • Experience managing On-Premises Enterprise compute and Storage.
  • Experience with databases such as MS SQL, MySQL, and possibly Elasticsearch.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as JavaScript, PowerShell, Bash.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, HAProxy, NGINX, and other open-source software.
  • Strong experience with Public and Private Cloud services, and building modern platforms based on virtualisation and container orchestration.
  • Experience in working with Ansible (or others) for automated build and configuration.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain protocols and processes with both engineering teams and management.
  • Experience working with Repos and Pipeline in Azure DevOps, Github, or Gitlab.
  • Stellar troubleshooting skills with the ability to spot issues before they become a problem.
  • Staying current with industry trends, IT operations, and industry best practices, and identifying the ones we should implement.
  • Time and project management skills, with the capability to prioritize and multitask as needed.
